Construction progress documentation has traditionally relied on photographs, daily logs, and periodic site walks. These methods capture snapshots of activity but lack the spatial precision needed to verify installations, track deviations, or resolve disputes with objective data.
Progress capture using LiDAR scanning and 360° photography creates a time-stamped, dimensionally accurate record of the jobsite at each milestone. This data can be overlaid on the design model — a process called scan-vs-BIM — to identify deviations between what was designed and what was actually installed.
For general contractors, progress capture provides documentation that supports pay applications, schedule verification, and quality assurance. The archive value is significant too. A complete set of progress scans creates a permanent spatial record of what's behind the walls, above the ceilings, and below the floors. This data serves the building for its entire lifecycle — supporting future renovations, maintenance, and facility management long after the original project team has moved on.
